Why did you choose mad academy*?
I chose MAD mainly because it was a shorter more intense course which I believe is a better learning environment, at the end I would be Discreet Certified and after speaking to Sam and the other instructors who have years of industry experience I knew this was the place for me.

What do you remember most about mad academy*?
I remember Bay Swiss coffee, lots of like minded people with a passion for the industry and above all an awesome atmosphere and the time of my life… Plus those Blue Walls!

Did you have any other education before coming to mad academy*?
I started at MAD straight out of year 12, which was excellent, as I recall when I was researching education faculties that a lot of them required some sort of higher education or industry experience.

What words of advice would you give someone looking to invest in a mad academy* 3D Animators education?
Do IT! If you’ve got a passion for 3d then make the jump and do it, it’s worth it big time. The other main one is start playing with 3d now, as the learning curve can be quite steep with that said though entirely manageable.

Are you in touch with your classmates from mad academy*?
Absolutely, I’ve made friends that will last for a long time, also its crazy how quickly your friends turn into your industry contacts!

At what point did you decide to get into Animation & Visual Effects?
I think it would have been way back when I was still at school and I started creating content for computer games, then I learnt the same software and techniques I had been using were used for feature films, tv broadcast etc. Well form that point on my mind was set.

Was there a defining moment when you knew you had become an animation artist?
Probably when I completed my first freelance job and the client was blown away with the outcome, which was a massive relief as I had been nervous throughout the entire job.

What inspires your work?
Anything original that pushes the limits and raises the bar, plus I think real life is always the best inspiration that one needs, many a time on a summer day I thought what a crazy GI solution life has!

Is there a particular project or job that has shaped your perspective more than others?
I don’t know that there’s one particular job but I will say that I try to take a little form each job I do, I think the first couple of jobs I did had a large impact on my perspective.

What are you doing right now – work wise?
I am currently working at Ivolve Studios which is fantastic as nothing beats working with guys that are willing to push the limits of what can be done every day. These guys create some stunning work, and I am thrilled to be part of the team in a technical position.

What is your dream job?
My dream job would have to be being a lead character TD in a major studio working on feature films, or owning my own studio. Hopefully one day.

Your Demo Reel Advice
Don’t get too stressed out, with that said be prepared to pull the pin out as in this industry your reel is everything, luckily MAD has an excellent program for helping students, which I can honestly say that without the help of the instructors like Ivon and Damien that I would not be where I am to day.

What qualities/strengths make a good animation artist?
Dedication, an eye for detail and most importantly a passion for it. Some one who enjoys creating amazing things everyday!
