This course is not only an entry level course
for the new user, but is also relevant to
existing users wanting to upgrade or enhance
their existing 3d skills, or perhaps change
over from other 3d packages.
The course covers the major concepts and
techniques for successful creation of a
demo reel. Whether it be a portfolio of
work representing your companies modeling
and animation projects or to be used towards
gaining you employment as a professional
3d Artist or Animator a demo reel created
for a specific purpose is always guaranteed
to be successful rather than an all purpose,
generalised approach.
Organised into a series of theory and hands
on lab assignments, the course ensures that
the student will receive 70 hours of well
paced, intensive professional training.
Once you have completed this course, you
will have a commercial level understanding
of how to create a professional demo reel
to the level that relates directly to the
3d animation and digital industry, whether
it be Film, Broadcast, TV, Web, or Pre-press.
This course does not just focus on the how,
but also on the reasons why demo reels are
expected to be presented and put together
in a certain way. The course not only helps
you understand the concepts of good design
principles and relevance, but also how to
apply them to your own demo reels.
This course teaches you the essential elements
and concepts of demo reel creation. You

Prior knowledge of 3ds Max interface and
navigation is assumed
A working knowledge of PC's and the Windows
operating environment is assumed.
Course Outline
1. What makes a good demo reel.
A look at the principles of good design
and relevance when planning towards creation
of a demo reel. You will also look at examples
of both good and bad demo reels.
2. Planning for successful complete and
creation.
What to include in your reel and what to
leave out.
3. Different reels for different deals.
A demo reel aimed at getting you a job as
a technical director, character rigger should
be completely different to one aimed at
getting you a job as a character modeler.
We look at the processes for getting the
right reel, understanding job descriptions,
understanding what the potential employer
or client is really looking for in your
reels and portfolios.
4. Putting it all together.
Once you have planned your reel or portfolio,
gathered a list of content, worked out your
creative approach and layout, you then start
to put all of the pieces together. We show
you how.
5. Understanding the media
This module focuses on techniques for creating
your final output, the correct approach
to rendering for film, broadcast, online
and pre-press.
